The aim of this page is to provide some useful starting links for people in the Nottinghamshire area who don't feel they fit into the categories "straight" or "gay", and for their partners and friends.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet
Many of us call ourselves bi or bisexual, hence the page name. Some people use some other label or prefer no label. Some people are questioning their sexuality at the moment - lives and labels can change. "The bi community" includes & welcomes people who don't necessarily use the label "bi".
The bi index page at Uncharted Worlds links to lots more on who's included in our communities and how some of us see the philosophy of bisexuality.
Local links...
- Nottingham Bi-Women's Group
- East Midlands Bi Network emailing list
- Married Men's Group: Support group for men who are married or in long-term relationships with women, who are also attracted to other men. Included here within a theme of "behavioural bisexuality" even though most of the men attending identify as gay rather than bi, and don't necessarily consider themselves part of the bi community. For details, contact the GAi Project 0115 947 6868 or the Health Shop 0115 947 5414 in daytimes, or Switchboard 0115 934 8485 evenings. Or email gaiproject@nottinghamcity-pct.nhs.uk.
- Nottingham Pride and Leicester Pride: The bi-women's group is likely to run stalls at each of these in 2007, although we didn't in the end in 2006.
- At summer 2006, it's looking likely that BiCon (see below) may be in the Midlands in 2007 and/or 2008.

Other Nottingham groups...
This page doesn't include the many other LGB (lesbian/gay/bi) groups in the Nottingham area which include bi people. One local listings resource is the Out House website.
LGB groups vary widely in how much of a bi population they include and how bi-friendly the atmosphere is. Bisexuality is still widely misunderstood and stereotyped (e.g. as "confusion"), and that happens in the lesbian and gay communities as well as in mainstream culture. So most bi people in LGB organisations find themselves having to do some "bisexuality education" at some point. But there are lots of friendly people out there too.
Good luck in finding what you want!
